Are you sustainable?
Teachers are burning out left and right. Do you know what it will take for you to be sustainable?
Over at my website, Brave Teachers, I've started to write about the elements that I think are needed to be sustainable in the teaching profession.
Last week I wrote about To thine own self be true. And there are more thoughts here.
This week I've written about Knowing your limits.
There will be more to come, so stay tuned!
What sustains you?
What do you think it means to be a sustainable teacher?

what a great topic, i haven't truly stopped to think of my sustainability. i've thought on many occasions that i may not be able to stay in the classroom until retirement. these feelings arise when i feel overwhelmed not by the constant work & demands of teaching, but when i am constantly bombarded by what seems to be the last minute demands by the higher ups...the politics in education is what has made me doubt my sustainability. however!!! what does keep me going is that i really do love teaching...just close the door and teach!!!
ReplyDeletethanks for opening this topic up, i needed that affirmation

Ivett,
ReplyDeleteIt's great to hear your thoughts. Loving what you do is so central to the whole thing. It does feel like the rules are being changed all the time and with such short notice!.
Today I'm sending you courage and strength to carry on! You go!
